Galeries Lafayette…still crowded but still pretty

Instead of doing a zillion word blog post today, I thought I’d break it up into Galeries Lafayette and then other stuff.

We were able to get over there fairly early this morning (going on 10 a.m.) and caught a few more pix of the windows outside the store, as well as the very cool Christmas tree hanging from the middle of the store.  Keep in mind, this thing is 4 or 5 stores high, suspended from the ceiling.

This is the ceiling of the middle part.  The white “branches” are the feet of the Christmas tree.

This is the inner part of the dome….just like stained glass.  Which it may be, but my French skills do not extend to complicated questions.

You can see the tree in its entirety here…see how you can see it from almost every floor?  Tres cool.

Just glad I didn’t have to hang this sucker!

And then for the windows outside:

Alex tells me these are Monsters, which the Fench spell Monstres.  He loves the 3-eyed one…

And as I said in an earlier post, the top of this store has a fantastic view of the entire city, although right now, you can only get about half way around.

Here’s the Eiffel Tower and on the right, you can just see part of the Arc de Triomphe!

And Sacre Coeur:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAYeah, the building is in the way, but… Alex and I decided that going to see it again closer up was too much work.  The thing is beautiful, but you have to be very careful about pickpockets.

I found a wonderful Page A Day calendar with the theme of La Bible…Each day it has something from the Bible.  I told Alex it would keep up my language skills, shabby as they are.

And Alex found the requisite HK display, including HK France.  And no, we didn’t buy any.  Alex got me an HK stuffed animal with tutu for my birthday, so that is all I need.  And an HK card, too.

There is a big HK interest in Paris too…you can find her almost everywhere.

And before I forget, we also stepped into frosty astroturf on top of the Galeries Lafayette, lest you think we are Hawaiian wimps who complain about the cold even when there isn’t any! Remember this is 10 a.m.!

OK, that’s it for the Gal Lafayette portion of this post….gotta let my sweetheart have a go at the computer.  Stay tuned for more later!  Today is our last day in Paris, so we are really working hard to stay up late enough to see the Eiffel tower at night from close up!

A Bientot!
